Sandra Wabaunsee Kingston was born in Claremore and raised in Wyandotte on Cayuga Road on her family's Reservation allotment land. Sandra has three children Robin, Russell and Stephen. Sandra also has many special self-proclaimed-adopted children like Rick, Brittany, Carrie, Amy, Nina, Sean, Tony and more. She has five grandchildren, Jenna, Megan, Ally, Bailey and Pax-E-Kah (Pakie), and she has four great grandchildren, Sandy, Harper, Adalyn, Rhett and Ava.
Sandra was the oldest of (8) children and her siblings are Mary, Gary, John, Jeannie, Brenda, Mike and Bob. She cherished family the most. Her other passion that she dedicated over fifty years to was our Tribal Nation Government. Sandra helped forge the path to establish many of the mechanisms that moved our Tribe into Self Governance and true Sovereignty; and many of those mechanisms are still the law today.
There wasn't a single day that sat the sun that our Nation's Government wasn't discussed by her in some fashion. As we say in our house..... "it's what we do". "Without rules we foster chaos', she always said. And let me tell you, she was an informed, knowledgeable and formidable opponent while simultaneously being the strongest Warrior on the front lines for the worthy.
Sandra was a wonderful Mother, Sibling, Grandma, Great Grandma, teacher, mentor, leader, historian and true Warrior, just to name a few. She held deep pride and often proclaimed "I'm a Bigtail!"
There is a non-traditional Celebration of Life gathering at the Seneca Cayuga Community Building on Saturday the 25th at 1:00 pm. This is not a funeral, it is a Celebration of a Life that spanned 81 incredible years with some incredible accomplishments along the way. We invite all to come by and have a plate of chicken and fixin's, cold drinks and lots of good stories, laughter and celebration of one incredible woman.
I should know, she's my momma; and I am truly blessed by God for that gift.
