Mary Fort

Mary Elizabeth (Bennett) Fort, 78 of Seneca, Mo., passed into eternal rest May 20, 2013 after a long illness.      Mary Elizabeth was born March 21, 1935. She is the daughter of Luther Oren and Dolly Ruth Bennett.  Mary Elizabeth received her B.S. degree at SMS, Springfield, Mo., and earned M.S. degree and Certified Reading Specialist at PSU, Pittsburg, Kansas. Mary taught at the Seneca Elementary School and retired after 31 years.      Mary is a member of the Seneca Church of Christ, belongs to Southwest Missouri Council I.R.A., Neosho Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma, Joplin Chapter of University Women.  She is a charter member of the Seneca C.T.A. and has been a M.S.T.A. member for 30 years.  Mrs. Fort has been a member of the Eastern Star, Neosho Chapter for 45 years.      Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Ruth Bennett; one brother, William George and her husband, Richard Fort.   Survivors include a brother, Ronal Bennett of Seneca; and sisters, Twyla Forslund of Neodesha, Kansas; Phyllis Gillespie of Carthage and Ruth Anne Bennett of Seneca, and an aunt, Vera Lou Cornell of Neosho.      A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held, May 31st (Friday) at 1:00 p.m. at the Seneca Church of Christ with Rev. Jake King officiating.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fair Haven Children’s Home in care of Seneca Church of Christ.          The body has been taken for cremation under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.
