Katherine (Kay) Gil passed away at her home, in bed, surrounded by her children and family on March 14, 2023. She had been fighting for a years-long battle with a nefarious criminal named Cancer, who has plagued our society for far too long.
She was born on Ground Hog's Day, February 2, 1961. Although we do not know if she saw her shadow, we do know she loved living on the farm near Fairview, Missouri with her parents, Bill and Ila Erisman, and her brothers, Rod and Dub. A place she still visited often. A daughter, who preceded her in death, Sequoia, rests there.
She left the farmhouse she loved so deeply in 7th grade and moved to the big city of Joplin. She proceeded to graduate from Joplin Memorial High School in 1979 and started touring the country with a lesser known band called her family. From Wyoming to Washington, Oregon, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma, Kay lived in several places, but towards the end she considered Seneca, Missouri her home. It was from there she indulged her passion as an author and photographer. She won multiple awards through the Crowder Quill and was published in freelance pieces in area newspapers.
She leaves behind a big, sometimes wild, family: William and Krystal Gil, Levi and Jammi Gil, Eppie Gil, and River and Allison Gil; plus the most spoiled, amazing grandchildren anyone could ask for: Sequoia, Nemera, Dakotah, Taegan, Marylynn, Katalina, and Shailana. She also left behind some dysfunctional, yet fun brothers, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. All of them she loved very much and will miss telling them like it is.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on 6 to 7 pm, Friday, March 24, 2023 at Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO. A funeral service was not Kay's style. She had been to many funerals, often earlier in life than she would have expected or wanted. She felt each of those losses deeply, and asked for her family to not have a traditional service. A Celebration of Kay's life will be planned in the future. This weather, with its up and down temperatures, is for the birds. Kay would have none of it. A Celebration of Life will be planned and enjoyed later when it is warmer outside and the weather is nicer.
