Hazel Pearl Smith
Hazel Pearl Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2011, at age of 96, surrounded by her loving family. Hazel was a Christian and always instilled her Christian values and beliefs into her family. She was born on September 17, 1915 to Oscar and Bessie Pickering in Baxter Spring, KS. Hazel was affectionately known by most who knew and loved her as “Nanny”. She married her husband Kenneth Smith on June 12, 1933 in Columbus, KS and their 51 years of marriage was spent farming and raising Registered Limousine cattle. She joins him now in Heaven after his death in September 1984. From this union, they were blessed with 3 children. Hazel was a very talented and hard-working lady and held many jobs, both inside and outside of the home. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, adored grandmother, and was a selfless and loving woman to all, throughout her entire life. Although she was a woman of tiny stature, she possessed a grand love for her family, which was truly her greatest joy in life. She was known to always put everyone’s needs and wants ahead of her own, and she did so willingly and lovingly. Besides her loving husband Kenneth, Hazel was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Clarence, Joe and Walter Pickering, 1 sister, Lola Hornback, 1 loving granddaughter, Carla Kay Renfro Ward and 1 son in law, Marvin Griggs. She leaves on this earth 1 son, Harold Smith and wife Pat, of Wyandotte, OK; 2 daughters, Beverly Kerns and husband Bob and Sondra Griggs, both of Miami and one sister, Darlene Barnett, and husband Joe, of Seneca, MO. She was fortunate to have 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church, located east of Miami behind Glen-Abbey Cemetery. The services will be officiated by Pastor Mike Stephens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons. Interment will be at the Seneca Cemetery, under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, in Seneca, MO. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM, Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 2 to 3 PM at the Funeral Home.
