Betty Ruth Geary was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 9:36 am surrounded by family. Appropriately, "When the Roll is Called up Yonder" was playing in the background. We can only imagine the joy that she experienced as she met her Lord and Savior face to face. What a reunion it must have been as she was greeted by those who preceded her.
Betty was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 29, 1934 to George and Jane Woolman. After graduating from Yale High School in Yale, Michigan, she attended Grand Rapids School of the Bible. Betty traveled to Kentucky for a short-term mission trip. While there she was introduced to George Geary by his aunt, Dorothy. After a short courtship they were married in Michigan on April 3, 1959. George and Betty settled in Herman, Nebraska where they worked the family farm. They wanted a large family. Their first three children, Thomas Scott (Sharon) Geary, Rebecca Lynn (Larry) Saylors, and Rachel Ann Geary (deceased) were born in Nebraska. The winters were harsh and the decision was made to move south to milder climate. In 1962 George and Betty moved the family to the former Milnot farm in Seneca, Missouri. They lived the rest of their lives at the farm in Seneca. Five more children were born to the Geary family in Missouri: Dorothy Jean (Steve) Pense, Lesa Marie (Gary) Lankford, Timothy Calvin (Karen) Geary, Theodore Alan (Shawna) Geary, and Miriam Ruth Vaughan. To this large family were born 20 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids.
Betty was always a gracious host. She and George had a heart for missions. Over the years they entertained many missionaries in their home. Their children have very fond memories of the many missionary families who graced their dinner table. If the missionary family didn't speak English, the Geary family did their best to communicate. Even after George's death in August 2004, Betty continued to be involved in the support of missions and missionaries. She even had the privilege of being involved in a couple of missions' trips in her senior years. George and Betty inspired their family and many others to love and serve God.
The Geary family is experiencing peace knowing that their mom/grandma is in heaven with Jesus. She completed her purpose on this earth. Her heart's desire would be that each person who she has ever known would also have a close relationship with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
